Eagle Peak from Yosemite Creek or Tamarack Flat

Postby mikerain » Tue May 28, 2019 9:47 pm

I'm trying to find these distances for a big day hike:
- From Tamarack Flat Campground to Eagle Peak and then to the Valley
- From Yosemite Creek Campground to Eagle Peak and then to the Valley

I'm getting conflicting numbers. For example, Tamarack to Valley without detour to Eagle Peak...
11.5 miles per this:
https://www.nps.gov/yose/planyourvisit/upload/valleyhikes.pdf
16.0 miles per this:
https://www.nps.gov/yose/planyourvisit/upload/trailheads.pdf

Does anyone know accurate distances?

I use caltopo.com to estimate distances. Some trails on it have a snap-to when you're tracing routes, some don't, but it helps you get a good idea of distances.

For example - Tamarack Flat to the Valley floor with a side trip to Eagle Peak: https://caltopo.com/m/H8JF
15 and a half miles or so. Right click on the line to generate a elevation profile.

Blue line is from Yosemite Creek. 12.74 miles to Eagle and then to the valley floor.
