If there's food, garbage, a scent, or it's at all unwashed and used in any way for food prep, by definition under federal regulations it's considered a food item that really should be stored properly in a locker if at all possible. This definition even specifically includes clean and empty ice chests.
Update: Scent is unavoidable, that's not the issue. Even my canister smells. But the technicalities of what is defined as food, a scented item, or is used for food prep aside, no, even though they would prefer you to store your grill in the locker, they're not going to make you do it. It's still a matter of the circumstances and the individual ranger's discretion though. I guess everyone should be happy that I'm not working as a ranger then...the letter of the law and spirit of the law sometimes get lost on us righteous purists...food is food, be it cookies or bacon grease, it's all calories to a bear, but it's still a long way from nuts and berries.....kids that never eat candy never understand its joys, and bears that never know human food wouldn't be any different, except for us. And human negligence, as innocent as it might be, is also why the squirrels on the Pizza Deck are obese.
