It's not going to help much. 50% of the campground is left for walk ins, and there's no predicting how long a camper stays in their campsite. Generally, weekends are the busiest, midweek is less busy.
When going for a walk in we arrive at 5 am and get in line, particularly if it's Friday or Saturday. We are issued numbers when we get to the desk and told come back at 2 after the day's checkouts. And then we come back, and even though we've been #15, or #25, or whatever, we usually get a site because no one seems to want to wait around til 2.
Of course, it's been several orders of magnitude busier than ever before this year -- so I've not been even bothering. We're going to Kings Canyon instead, and Sequoia National Forest, and Sierra National Forest. Granite domes, peaks, great big lakes full of fish, and no lines.
