Looking for 4 day backpack trip route ideas in late may 2010

Postby wanderingone » Thu Mar 25, 2010 11:05 pm

Howdy-

I am planning a 4 day backpack trip on May 21st to the 24th and looking for a route that will be workable.

Last year, we did 4 days starting at Tunnel view, going past Taft, Dewey, Cathedral, around and up halfdome, then down the mist trail. Weather was absolutely perfect.

I'd like to do something like Toulumne Meadows, Lambert Dome, Tanya Lake, Clouds Rest, halfdome, john muir down to Yosemite Valley where we'd have parked.

My main question is, am I kidding myself... weather wise? I'm not sure if my route will be snow covered and if even a shuttle will be in service from Yosemite Village to Toulumne Meadows?

If I am kidding myself on this route for late May, does anyone have any other suggestions besides the south rim? We'll only have one car so will need public transportation if we do a point to point trip.

Thanks a bunch!

You're not kidding yourself, unless you fully expect to be able to predict snows levels in those areas. If you were going right now, you would have no chance for that hike...and it just depends on the weather from here on out. My guess is that you will not be able to drive to TM in late May---you certainly couldn't last year--but each year is different.

I'd have a back up itinerary, just in case!
