Early summer Vs Late Summer backpacking

Postby zonachris » Mon May 24, 2010 1:27 pm

Thinking of a Yosemite / Sierra camping trip and trying to figure out pro/cons between going in June vs August. I'm thinking June is better for water availability and weather (no thunder storms). I'm thinking late August should be better with less bugs, and maybe smaller crowds. Thoughts? My biggest worry is that there isn't enough water in August.

Where are you going? Everywhere in the park there is water.

Ok.
June I'd worry more about way too much water and river crossings and
snow.

Def. wouldn't worry about water at all.

Done the JMT in mid Sept. on an average snow year. Water was
no issue at all. People reported "low" water or something like that..
completely unfounded IMO.

Have fun

This year has been wet. You will most likely have too much water.[/quote]

In august you will have enough, but not "too much" water.

One solution for this situation is that why are you not going in the month of July? I think in End of the July month there were no as many crowd and also bug will be lesser and also enough water is there.
