TOpo maps on your digital camera?

This came up as I looked at my photos from a recent trip. I had taken a photo of the topo map at the trailhead, just as a lark, and realized later that with the zoom feature of the camera, I could actually read the map.

So has anyone here tried to do this? Use your camera as a topo map library? I tried taking a couple of photos of maps here at home, with fair success--but what I would REALLY like is to be able to load them into the camera as jpgs.

Any ideas? Suggestions? Experience?

If you have a scanner you could scan them as a jpeg, them load them onto the camera. I have done that with an iPhone, and I'm sure it would be great on your camera as well. I like to have a backup map just in case I lose my hard copy:)

I take it you have Topo! software or such and you
can save the map as a jpg.

Just do that and then crop it to match your cameras resolution.
Take some photos to get some new files on your card.
Rename your topos to those names and replace them on the card.
Worked for me.

I take photos of nearly all the signs and maps we run across.
I've used them a number of times in the past during a trip.

Also sometimes bring a PSP with me with boatloads of maps.
(I can spend hours looking at topo maps)
