Just a heads up, last Thursday I saw a 4 foot Diamond Back on the way to Merced Lake, about 1/4 mile east of LYV BP camp. He was on the trail and gave a hard rattle as I got within ten feet. Tried to get some pics but he moved quickly into vegitation. About 10 minutes later I spoke to some BP'rs heading west on the same trail. They came across a smaller Diamond Back the previous day closer to Moraine Dome.

I doubt it was a diamondback, as those are desert rattlers, but I don't doubt it was a rattlesnake - there are a lot of them out right now, we were taking pictures of them on the chilnualna falls trail and saw them along the panorama as well.
