Virginia Lakes area hiking/snow?

Postby centurycyclist » Mon Jun 28, 2010 11:40 pm

Has anyone been in the Virginia Lakes area this week? If so, what is the snow like, and how manageable is the hiking? Thanks!

I just completed the JMT and was at Virginia Lake on 7/1. Most of the switchbacks between Purple and Virginia were covered in snow, but the trail was relatively easy to follow. I had poles and they were a major help. Just a couple hundred yards from the north side of Virginia, the snow has completely melted.

The water level is pretty high, and the main lake has flooded over the trail into the little ponds on the northeast side. You just have to walk around an extra half mile.

Good luck!

Confused.

Lake Virginia is a LONG way away from Virginia Lakes

(I love both areas though!)
