Rock Island Lake

Postby balzaccom » Sat Jul 24, 2010 7:23 am

We're heading out the Twin Lakes/Robinson Creek trailhead in August...just wondering if anyone has been over to Rock Island Lake? Seems pretty easy to get to from Rock Island Pass trial...

And are there fish in that lake?

Just curious. Our tentative itinerary calls for a trip through Matterhorn Canyon, but I am always looking for new lakes to explore.

Trivial from RI Pass (RI Pass USED to be the pass TO the lake)

Not 100% sure but I don't think there are any fish in the lake.
But there are fish in almost all the others Robinsons, Snow, Peeler...

I thought I posted these before but maybe not since I
never annotated them.

This was from last year in early July I believe.
There's some maps at the end which are from GPS tracks.

Was suppose to go back this year and hit Thompson Canyon
but instead we just did Cherry Creek Canyon from Shingle to Lord Meadow.
(It's a loooong haul over to Twin Lakes from the Bay Area)

Have fun

here's a look at the lake from last year. i don't recall a fish jumping.

easy hike over, with some nice day hiking around and challenging x-country routes to the south. there's some camping in trees to the west of of the lake and up a little bit, but mostly be prepared for high country sun exposure.

a beautiful spot.
