May Trip

Postby co.phi » Mon May 18, 2015 2:32 pm

I am taking a 4 day trip at the end of May from Tuolumne meadows to Waterwheel falls, then to May Lake, and then Cathedral Lake back to Tuolumne. Has anyone seen recent conditions of these trails? It looks like there has been a good amount of snowfall over 8k feet and the weather will be rainy/cold at that time. Is any gear necessary such as snow shoes or micro spikes? Any other comments on conditions or what to expect is appreciated.

The current storm cycle has been pretty short. The pass closed again today after opening for only a day after the last close. Keep an eye on the current conditions at Yosemite website, and call the park before you go. I suspect the snow will be thin, mushy cr*p as late spring snow often is, making traction devices and snowshoes useless. Unless you go above 9500- then you'll post hole in more.

I would have a lower elevation fallback plan, if I were you.
