Hello,
I have been reading the official Yosemite backpacking website and am confused with the section on large groups.
(I can't post the weblink I am referring too, because I am a new member, sorry)
Our group size is going to be 10 people and we are backpacking from Toulumne Meadows to Yosemite Valley. Not sure if we qualify as an overnight group where the limit is 15 or as a cross country group were the limit is 8.
If the limits is 8...do rangers allow a couple of extra people?
Thanks,
Gabe

It's pretty simple.
Are you staying on the trail?
If you are going off the trail and hiking a long distance then you are
xcountry. By that I just mean that if you look for a site off-trail
at the end of the day... that's not xcountry....
You're fine. But dang... good luck keeping 10 people on 1 page and
together....
Just to be crystal clear... you are ok if you are keeping to the trail.
Good luck with permits though.

Thanks for the info. Yeah we have no reserved permits so that is the next or should I say biggest problem because I believe there are only 10 permits available for first come first serve.
