Top of Vernal via JMT

Hi,
My wife and I are going to the park in late April. This will be her first hike in Yosemite. In addition to physical limitation, she also suffers from vertigo, so the Mist Trail is out. Is it worth the effort to take the John Muir trail to the top of Vernal and cut back along the Mist Trail to the Emerald Pool, or are we looking at wasted effort? I think shes capable of going beyond the Vernal bridge, but not the top of Nevada.

Thanks

If you take the JMT to Vernal you actually go 500 ft. ABOVE Vernal to
Clark Pt. and then drop down.
Is it worth it? Well, for me.. the best view of any waterfall in the park
is along the section from Clark Pt. to Vernal. There is an overlook
which looks almost directly down on Vernal. Just spectacular.

What I suggest you do is try this. (or at least give it a thought).
At the Mist/JMT junction continue on the Mist trail. You won't have
to go up a huge number of steps before you get smacked with
Vernal falls. Take it slow and monitor the situation. If it's not
looking good then turn around and try the JMT.
If she can make it to the bridge she'll be able to make it to this point.
Not sure about the Vertigo though.

Good luck.

If you want to see a pict of thses spots lemme know and I'll throw some up.

Sure.

Here's the overview below Clark Pt.

Don't miss this lookout if you go this way.

Here's just a very small way up the Mist Trail I was talking about.

I don't think getting to this spot is that bad.

Take a look on Google Earth and you'll find many more photos.

Great pictures bill-e-g.

My wife and I are going to Yosemite this June. I think we'll make it a point to hike to the overview below Clark Pt that you mentioned. What a great view.
