Old map of Yosemite on cloth

Postby sboswell » Sun Apr 17, 2011 5:44 pm

I was at a garage sale this morning and found an amazing old map of yosemite. I worked there one summer and loved it so when I found this and did not recognize some of the landmarks on it, it sparked my curiosity. I was wondering if anyone knew the year this might have been made...
It is on cloth material... somewhat of a bandana and is a cartoon style drawing in colors (mainly red, yellow, black and blue)
The title is “The Valley Yosemite National Park”.
It contains: Big Oak Flat Road, Indian Village, Wawona Tree, Le Conte Lodge (Which I believe is still in Yosemite?), Glacier Pt. Hotel, The firefall, Old village, profile rock.. .
these are the main ones that stuck out to me...
I would love to know when this might have been made! Love it!
I have pictures of it but unsure how to attach it in this post. =-(

To post a picture, upload to Google Picassa, Flickr, Yahoo, or other photo website. Then post the link here. Here's two cartoon maps that I can think of, off-hand.

Jo Mora Yosemite Valley cartoon map (1930s and 1940s; reprinted 1996)

Della Taylor Hoss perspective map:

Yes, Le Conte Lodge is in Yosemite Valley. It is used as a library and children's education center.

1955 Della Taylor Hoss Relief Map

Postby dan » Thu Apr 28, 2011 6:24 pm

I see eBay has a 1955 Della Taylor Hoss Cloth Relief Map listed. Here it is:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vi ... 3AUS%3A101
(the image will probably go away in a few weeks)

It's a map painting printed on cloth. It says "YOSEMITE NATIONAL PARK CALIFORNIA" on the bottom in block lettering. The map printed with a yellow decorated border, with the map mainly in green (for forests) and blue (for the cliffs). It shows Yosemite Valley and Hetch Hetchy Valley in the foreground, and Tuolumne and the Sierra Crest in the background. Mariposa is on the right side, along with the signature "Della Hoss". The winning bid was $55.

Della Taylor Hoss was a Yosemite artist (1900-1997). Here's a short biographical sketch of Mrs. Hoss:
