Katherine Ames was born April 8, 1895 in Michigan. She married Frank J. Taylor June 30, 1919 and they had 3 sons. Katherine Ames Taylor wrote books for H. S. Crocker Co., which include:
Her husband Frank J. Taylor was a newspaper reporter and author. He was born October 8, 1894 in South Dakota. His photographs appeared in her 1926 book. Frank J. Taylor also wrote The Yosemite Trip Book (1929, 1938), co-wrote Oh Ranger! with NPS Director Horace Albright in 1929, and also wrote several other books, mostly travel and history, and magazine articles. During World Wars I and II he was a war correspondent. He died October 23, 1972. His biography appears in Gale’s Contemporary Authors.
Katherine Ames Taylor died July 5, 1979 in Santa Clara Co., California, but was residing at Arcade, Sacramento Co., California at her death.

Stanford University Press published a second, expanded edition of this book, renamed Yosemite Trails and Tales, in 1948. The copyright for the latter edition, but not the first, was renewed (in 1976).
